Refuel part 2

Last week, we were reminded of how God doesn't want us to live our lives emptily, but instead be filled with power and life. We learnt that filling up check-lists do not necessarily equate to a filled life, especially if we are merely doing them for the sake of it. In light of this, what are the attitudes we should adopt such that we connect with Him?

This might be familiar to many of us - sometimes we go through life opening its 'boxes', expectant, yet ending up getting disappointed, even disillusioned. For example, while we may get excited making up resolutions, there may be times where we inevitably burn out and become unable to sustain them. That is because our objectives should fueled by our desire, stemmed from our connection with God, for our lives change radically as we grow in Him.

Psalm 25:14 encourages us greatly - "The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them", indicating how those who fear Him - those who truly and properly revere Him, seeking Him, are admitted into the intimacy of friendship with Him.

With this in mind, there are three pointers which we must keep close to our hearts.

Firstly, stop thinking that God as a entity faraway, or even unreachable, but rather one who is personal and close to each and every one of us. There are so many reminders of this truth in the bible!

1 Corinthians 3:16 - "Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?"
Romans 8:11 - "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you." (Indeed, the same spirit who lifted Jesus from death lives in us!)
Ephesians 1:13 - "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit"
Revelations 3:20 - "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."
Matthew 28:20 - "and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Hebrews 13:5 - "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Let us hold fast to His promises, for God does not lie!

Secondly, start enjoying small connections with Him. Constantly communicate throughout the day, making full use of the privilege we are blessed with, that we do not have to make appointments to contact our God! Call to Him and He'll be with you, as Jeremiah 33:3 confirms. However, that does not mean that all our connections with God have to be small, but rather, we must not underestimate the significance of these little moments of connection in refueling!

Thirdly, start looking for connection triggers, which are things and moments personal to us that cause us to be reminded of Him. Let us be constantly reminded and inspired by God's work around us. Indeed, the greatness of our God is unmistakable - let us be wide-eyed and grateful! Rather then just allocating time out for Him, we should involve Him in every moment of our lives (:
